    Shower Screens? Empty Shower Screens?

Post  Joe Wed 09 Jan 2008, 11:20 am

Has anyone changed the shower screen in their bathroom yet? I am looking at changing mine, and didn’t no how much of a pain it will be to do?

    Shower Screens? P1010052-2

^ My bathroom now and I want to get rid of the shower curtain and stick in a bigger glass screen before decorating.

    Hey Joe -

Its quite easy to do however if you decide that this is the way to go. I would advise that you get a patterned screen rather than just plain glass.... purely because we are in a hard water area & it will need constant cleaning if you want to keep it looking nice.

Good thinking that man. I shall have a look and hopefully get something very soon.

Most shower screen from DIY places will fit into the holder that is already embeded in the wall. Take care removing the shower rail as the polish labour didn't use the best plaster in the first place and you could end up with an ugly hole or two.

Along with sorting out the strip light in my kitchen and possibly adding a heated towel rail in the bathroom I am planning on adding a shower screen instead of the curtain in the bathroom. My boyfriend and I have looked at the original glass screen and wondered how easy is it to take out the glass. Is it lifted up and out towards the ceiling or brought out into the room?

Also I am not sure of what size heated towel rail I need as the radiator measures 50cm but the gap between the pipes is about 52 cm. Do i get a 50cm width rail or 60cm width rail? Most of them I have seen is 50cm width- and dont want to be spending loads on this so wanted the cheaper option.

Any advice would be much appreciated- as you can tell I am pretty hopeless when it comes to diy!

    Thanks

My advice us to use plastic piping to attach the new radiator - because it flexible it makes it a hell of a lot easier.
Also check the prices out from this company for the heated towel rails = http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/ . They are much cheaper and better value than B&Q. I went for a 600mm x 1150mm which is not available for about £95 delivered.

Also I would recommend that you get feed some inhibitor solution into the system (helps keep the pipes clean).

As for the shower screen I believe it is quite easy (have not got round to doing mine yet) ... Claire Bear will probably give you some hints on that.

    Hope that helps

I can indeed... it was pretty simple. I think Joe managed to get his into the bracket that is already on the wall. Mine didn't but it wasn't difficult to replace it with the one that came with the shpwer screen.

I'll try and get some pics up - not quite sure how to do it on here at the moment!

I got a sliding one so that I can still move it to clean as the sink and the handle on the bath make this a bit awkward!!

    Shower Screens? P1010006-3

That's mine that I managed to get into the original bracket. Fits quite nicely.

They all have different instructions on how to fit, but I'm sure you won't find it too hard once purchased. Mine took about 25 minutes to fit cheers
